hey ya'll.
i've been avoiding the internet, my phone has been dead since i left north america because i only have a charger that fits into north american outlets and am too unorganised (lazy) to go purchase a converter-thing, and i didn't carry a wallet/purse/anything around with me for the duration of my trip to thailand (and if you know my tendencies, i NEED my purse). i feel so unencumbered! but alas, life starts up again, i've been at work the past two day and have been reminded of the usefulness of technological distractions in the fight against total boredom... fb at work anyone?
to describe my vacation: swedish people everywhere, thai people everwhere, and everyone was so so wonderful and lovely. got the worst flu of life at the exact same time as T and we swapped turns being sick in our bathroom for 24 hours straight, keeping up all the other house guests (soooo sorry guys...). i found a beautiful knock-off mulberry handbag and the mean man at the market in patong would not lower his price below 4,000 baht, so i didn't get it. nai yang beach was perfect and tourist free (relatively) and we ate at the same restaurant every night because T's parents knew the owner and the food was incredible. i had many pina coladas and attempted to tan, but learned once and for all that i am not meant to be very brown (although i did get SOME colour...). T took me on a drive around the island and i shot a series of photos on my digital, which i have entitled 'Phuket: a drive-by shooting'. a lot of relaxing, reading, spending time with T's besties and parents. our trip started the day that melbourne's heatwave began, and we read on the web about the horrific fires and the 47 degree weather that happened over the course of our two weeks away. the day we got home the weather had dropped to 20 degrees and i felt guilty on my way to work because i was silently cursing the 'cold wind'. the entire state was ravaged by the most devastating fires the country has ever seen, and the news stories about how people survived or perished are heartbreaking and unreal. the fires didn't quite reach the city area, but they were definitely not far off - one started up today in a suburb just a few km's away from our 'hood. anyway, it is pretty surreal for me, but bushfires happen just about ever summer here.
well, i guess on that not-so-happy note... i leave you with some photo documentation of my trip. love yous.
